CONCERNING BIG OAK FLAT/GROVELAND USD


CORRECTED NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Big Oak Flat/Groveland Unified School District has one short term seat (two years) and three full term seats (four years) to be filled at the Consolidated General Election to be held in the County of Tuolumne, State of California on Tuesday, November 2, 2010.

November 2, 2010 Election Dates to Remember

 

September 23rd – Sample Ballots will be mailed out this week.

 

October 4th – Vote by Mail Ballots will be mailed out this week.

 

October 18th -- The last day to register to vote in the November 2nd election.

 

October 26th -- The last day your application to vote by mail can be received by the elections official. You can pick up a vote by mail ballot at the Elections Office up to and including election day.

 

November 2nd -- Be sure to vote.  The polls are open from 7AM to 8PM.

 

The Elections Office is considered an early polling place. Anyone may vote there, from October 4th to November 1st from 8am to 5pm, excluding weekends and holidays. On Election Day the hours will be 7am to 8pm.

The Election’s Office is a division of the County Clerk's Office and is run by the County Clerk. Listed below are some duties the Election’s Office is responsible for:

  • Registering voters and maintaining the voter registration file
  • Procuring all polling places and recruiting all poll workers in Tuolumne County
  • Conducting federal, state and local elections held in Tuolumne County
  • Providing information to candidates on the nomination process and campaign reporting laws
  • Filing campaign statements (itemized listings of candidates' and campaigns' contributors and expenditures)
  • Providing voter registration information and related materials to candidates and campaigns
  • Numerous other duties relating to elections

    Facts for New Citizens

    Citizens who will be at least 18 years of age at the time of the next election are eligible to register to vote. Except as noted below, registration must take place at least 15 days before the election. You must also re-register by the 15-day deadline for an election to change your address, name or political party.

    After the naturalization swearing-in ceremony, you may complete the registration-by-mail form provided and mail it to the Registrar of Voters. The voter registration form must be postmarked by the 15th day before the election. You will receive a notice of your eligibility to vote within a few weeks after your registration is processed. You may obtain additional registration forms and general information about elections by calling the Tuolumne County Election’s office (209) 533 5570. The mailing address is 2 South Green Street, Sonora, Ca 95370.

    IMPORTANT: If you become citizen after the close of registration you may register and vote at the Election’s Office between the 14th and 7th day before an election. New citizens must present a Certificate of Naturalization dated after the close of registration. The Election’s office is located at

    California law permits you to register with a political party or to decline to state a political party. For each election in which you are eligible to vote you will be sent a sample ballot. The Sample Ballot contains information on the candidates and measures to be voted on in the election. It is recommended that you mark the sample ballot and take it to the polls to use as a reference when voting. Tuolumne County also provides voting instructions, the State Ballot Pamphlet and local measures, to each polling place.

    On Election Day the polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. The address of the polling place will be printed on the sample ballot.     Does One Vote Make a Difference?

     

    To demonstrate how important it is that you cast your ballot, here are some examples that has been collected of how just a few votes made the difference for good or for ill:

     

    • BY ONE VOTE – The U.S. House of Representatives elected Thomas Jefferson as President of the United States.
    • BY ONE VOTE – Texas was admitted into the Union in 1845.
    • BY ONE VOTE – Hitler won leadership of the German Nazi Party in 1923.
    • BY ONE VOTE – Woodrow Wilson won California, giving him the electoral votes needed to win the Presidency in 1916.  Harry Truman carried California and Ohio in 1948, give him the winning margin.
